I began this body of work in residency in Santa Barbara, CA, summer of 2021, while I participated in a campaign to preserve a sacred piece of Chumash Tribal land that was going to be developed. The title is a reference to the process of learning about and speaking truth to the injustices done to the original inhabitants and the injustices done to this land in the centuries since. Exploring this area where I grew up, with renewed respect and purpose, inspired the drawings. The small, vertical formats are like cards, readily available as currency: offerings in deep solidarity with the Chumash Tribal Sovereignty.
